The 2023 20th Jarasum Jazz Festival poster was completed with the work of Donald Robertson, a Canadian illustrator and genius pop art designer active in various fields such as fashion, beauty, and broadcasting. JARASUM BEYOND
Son Seong-je, who has an irreplaceable presence and musicianship in South Korean jazz, presents his unique take on Korean popular songs of the 20th century.
In 2023, Jarasum Jazz Festival’s signature project ‘Jarasum Beyond’ is <Saero>, a project band that reinterprets Korean modern popular music in jazz language. The group is led by saxophonist Son Seong-je, who is not only an ECM label artist, but also an artist who has been gaining popularity and critical acclaim with his albums such as <Elegy of Rain> and <Nouveau Son>. Seong-je is accompanied by guitarist Jeong Su-wook, who has been his long-time collaborator, vocalist Sanhee, who won 5th place in KBS program 'Singer', Hyungyu Kim, who is an active bassist and a member of the trio Winter to Spring, and finally drummer Sanghyun Park. This unique quintet will perform Korean modern songs such as 'The Hymn of Death,' 'Mother and Sister,' 'Gamsugwang,' and many more, with their unique approach to modern jazz.

Jarasum Jazz Searching for Jazzmen
<Jarasum Jazz Searching for Jazzmen> is a new project launched in 2023 by the Jarasum Jazz Festival under the auspices of the Arts Council Korea to discover and support budding artists in the Korean jazz scene. As a support program for prospective artists under the age of 29, the final selected artists will receive 1:1 expert mentoring and special lectures, support for appearances at rising festivals and album production, and promotional kits to help them enter the full-scale music and performance market. In addition, complex cultural space, 9BLOCK and album distributor, Sori-e Naite Music Company will participate as partners in the Searching for Jazzmen project.
This year, 12 performance teams, 3 album production teams, and 4 festival organizers were selected.
JARASUMJAZZ x MABINOGI
This year's Jarasum Jazz Festival presents the project "Lifetime Playing, Lifetime Music: A Music Journey Through the Life Cycle with Mabinogi,” which utilizes the OSTs of Nexon's Mabinogi game, with production support from the Gyeonggi Content Agency.”
The project is mainly divided into music education programs and performance programs tailored to each life cycle.
Firstly, the OSTs will be arranged for elementary school orchestras, middle and high school bands, adult big bands. Secondly, all the scores will be available at the website of Jarasum Jazz Festival for anyone to download. Finally, the arrangements of OSTs are actually performed on various stages by various performing groups at the Jarasum Jazz Festival.
