Jarasum Jazz Searching for Jazzmen

<Jarasum Jazz Searching for Jazzmen> is a new project launched in 2023 by the Jarasum Jazz Festival under the auspices of the Arts Council Korea to discover and support budding artists in the Korean jazz scene. 

As a support program for prospective artists under the age of 29, the final selected artists will receive 1:1 expert mentoring and special lectures, support for appearances at rising festivals and album production, and promotional kits to help them enter the full-scale music and performance market. In addition, complex cultural space, 9BLOCK and album distributor, Sori-e Naite Music Company will participate as partners in the Searching for Jazzmen project.


This year, 12 performance teams, 3 album production teams, and 4 festival organizers were selected.

This is a showcase of 3 teams selected for album production and is an official invitation to this year's Jarasum Jazz Festival.

The Kim Deokhwa Trio energetically performs jazz that is full of unprecedented personalities. The trio is led by jazz pianist Kim Deokhwa, who plays variety of fusion jazz genres uncaged form categories captivating the audience with technical playing and powerful energy, and joined by Jeon HanGuk, an accomplished bassist who sings on the bass based on traditional vocabulary; and Kim DongMoon, an all-rounded drummer who plays a variety of genres including swing, modern, jazz, and funk.

The band was founded centering guitarist Ahn Seongmin and pursuing avant-garde and free music.

They play honestly, expressively, and delicately by putting their experiences of daily life and feelings of life time into their music. This band is joined by jazz guitarist Ahn Seongmin, who uses uncommon sound effects and bold performances; saxophonist Kim Sangbeom, who is outstanding in his free improvisations; bassist Hong Seungmin, who delivers very unexpected play in a warm sound; and drummer Moon Gideok, who is skillful in playing calm and restrained and utilizing various sound sources.

Yoo Taekeon Quartet is Korea's number one swing quartet that plays early swing and New Orleans jazz from the 1930s and 1940s,  and is full of the bright and exciting energy of the young musicians. The group is led by saxophonist Yoo Taekeon, who is rooted in tradition and loyal to the fundamentals, and is accompanied by pianist Cho Esther, who creates a variety of sounds; bassist Choi EunKyu, who plays across the genres; and drummer Kim GyungTae, who has colorful techniques and skills.
